- Couples Leagues
Information & format.
- DATES: To be announced
in Spring 2009
- TIMES:
4 groups- 3:00-3:45, 3:55-4:40, 4:50-5:35,
5:45-6:30 PM
- FORMAT:
Each week couples will be scheduled to play another couple. Along
with their scheduled match, their score will be matched against
another couple so each couple will play two matches a week. We play
a better ball format. Each player plays their first shot then the
couple must choose which shot they prefer to play and each play from
that spot. They continue this process (including putting) to they
hole out. They receive one score for the couple. They will compete
against each other using stroke play (total score minus handicap).
All couples will play with handicaps based on league scores- couples
playing last year will carry over last year's handicap while new
couples will establish one after week and it will be adjusted
weekly. Each win is worth 2 points and a tie is one point. The last
4 weeks are playoff weeks and match ups are determined by standings.
During the playoff matches wins are worth 3 points. All couples will
be divided by time slots and then rated by handicaps (A & B flight)
after June 25th matches. After this division there will be 8
divisions. Look for the playoff official rules as we get closer to
that date.
-
- MAKE-UPS:
Each couple will be allowed to play 3 matches before June 4th to be
used as make-ups. The make ups are rounds played in advanced and are
used when needed. We call these BANK scores & the Bank scores are
used in the order they are played. To play a bank round a couple
must get a bank card from the cashier have it dated and it must be
returned immediately after the completion of the round & must be
attested by another couple. These make-ups or bank rounds will
be used as needed when a couple does not show. Each couple is
allowed 3 bank rounds. Also couples can play matches in advance with
their opponents as long as they indicate on the card they are
playing and it's with the scheduled couple & played before their
scheduled date. The June 4th date can be changed if weather
conditions cause a restrictive number of days available for
make-ups.
-
- MAY matches-
All couples will have until June 4th to play their first 4 matches.
No scores will be tallied until after June 4th. Couples who miss any
of the first 4 weeks (May 7-June 4) can still get credit for the match
providing they play a make-up or bank before June 4th. In other
words, all couples must have 4 matches played on or before June 4th
to be up-to-date. This date is subject to change if rain or weather
cancels some May matches.
-
- NO-Shows-
If a couple does not show then they will forfeit their matches or
use their bank or make-up scores. Any couple who is scheduled
against a couple who does not show will be expected to show and will
play with a couple who's opponent also did not show. The course will
try to match up couples when it is known in advance a couple will
not be attending. It is important to inform us when you know you
will not be attending. When a couple's opponent does not show &
there is no other couple missing an opponent, then the couple will
play a sub couple (if available) or play with two other couples.
This will be the course's decision and made by a case by case basis.
To avoid these problems, WE STRONGLY encourage couples that know in
advance of their absence to make up these matches with their
scheduled opponent before the scheduled day. Please do not rely on
bank scores for all your make-ups. RULE- If the course is NOT
notified one hour before tee off that that couple will not be
playing that night, the league can declare "NO CALL-NO SHOW" and
that couple will not be able to use their bank scores. So it is
important to let us know if you cannot play.
-
- Rain-outs-
Bank scores will be used or the couples will have one week to make
it up.
- Standings-
Standings
will be posted with current handicaps each week.
- Subs or
replacements-
If one of the couple cannot play, the couple may be able to replace
one if someone is lost due to injury or other circumstances. It is
THE COURSE'S decision on what will be allowed. The course will
consider the replacement & be concerned with a sub being better in
skill for the player they replace. The course also can allow the
remaining player to play alone. Again, this a case by case situation
& the course will make the decision that is fair to both the couple
and its opponents.

8/20/07- FINAL ROUND, points are compiled including results of
8/13/07
- This year
will expanded the Championship field from 8 to 16 due to the
increased number of couples in the league. THE EIGHT DIVISION
WINNERS & 8 WILDCARDS will play for the Couples Championship.
- There will
be 2 wild cards from each time slot. The wildcards will be the next
in points after the two division winners. (There CAN be two
wildcards from one division.) The match ups will be the highest
division winner in each time slot playing the lowest wild card in
the same time slot. The division winners will be placed in seeds 1-8
based on point total. TIES for division & point position will be
broken by taking the current scoring average minus their current
handicap. If a tie still exists we go to the number of points last
week and go back until the tie is broken.
-
CHAMPIONSHIP 16
-
Tie breaker for
the championship 16 is hole by hole comparison using handicap
starting on hole 9 and continuing to 1 thru 8 with the first hole
won winning the match. If still tied, the higher seed wins. Check
the bracket below to see how the final two couples are determined.
-
- THE FINAL
TWO COUPLES play for the Championship.
-
- The winner
of this match will be the COUPLES LEAGUE CHAMPION –no matter what
there point total is. If the match is tied after nine holes than a
sudden death playoff will be played immediately, starting on hole 9
and handicaps will be used.
- The loser
of this match will be second place and positions 3 thru 48 will be
based on point total. The matches for the rest of the couples
(excluding the final 16) will be based on points and time slot.
-
- ALL
COUPLES NOT INCLUDED WITH THE FINAL 16 WILL PLAY IN THEIR OWN
TOURNAMENT.
-
- The fourth
annual “Coffee Cup” will be played among the remaining 32 couples.
Each couple will be placed in brackets (based on points and time
slot) and the final two will play along with the Championship Two on
August 27 for their own title. Any couples not in the final 16 can
win this event. Your current point total has nothing to do with who
plays for the Coffee Cup. You can currently be LAST in points and
still play for the Coffee Cup title if you win your bracket on this
day. To increase the fun, THE 32 couples will NOT PLAY STROKE PLAY
(Score – hdcp) but instead play MATCH PLAY (Hole by Hole) using
handicap. This way ONE bad hole will not necessary determine a match
for it is worth only one point or hole won.
-
- We hold
our Couples League Championship Tournament. While ALL couples will
be competing for either the Championship or Coffee Cup, they also
will be competing for many prizes that will be awarded for this
day’s results. Closest to the pin, Long drive, low net, chip ins are
among the games of contests that ANY COUPLE CAN WIN. We usually give
over 30 prizes away for just this event. So be sure to try to be
here for this fun filled event.
-
- BANQUET &
AWARDS CEREMONY
- The
banquet starts approx 6 PM (after completion of championship
matches)
- There is
NO GOLF except the finals for the Championship and Coffee Cup.
-
- ANY COUPLE
who wants to compete is a small skill competition we will hold one
approx 5 PM and the events will depend on the number of who want to
compete. There will be a sign up sheet for this so we allow enough
time to hold the event.
