NORM SMITH WINS MEN'S LEAGUE TITLE Don Battaglia’s Cinderella season came to an end September 4, 2007 as Don finished third for the 2007 Grandview Golf Course Men's League. Don was trying to complete his “last to first” triumph by finishing last (89th) last season and making the final fore in 2007. But, another underdog turned out as the winner. Norm Smith finished first edging out second place and former champion Tom Burke. Jim Grande was the fourth place finisher. Norm had his own amazing season. Last year he finished 66th place and only once during his years in the Mens League did he finish in the top half of the league. Norm’s best year before this year is when he won the Caddy Cup a few years back. But, after years of lack luster finishes, Norm sits on top of the Grandview World as 2007 Men's League Champion. Norm’s win was the final piece of the probably the most winning foursome in Men's League history. Norm started the Men's League playing with Bob Wood, Bob Bartus and Joe McCourt. All have championships with Joe having two. In the other match of the day, Mike Butlak shot one under par to win the 2007 Caddy Cup. Mike becomes only the third person to win the Championship and the Caddy Cup. Norm Smith and last year’s champion Dick Armbruster are the other two dual winners. Jim Militello finished second in the Caddy Cup tournament followed by Oran Heeter and Bob Schmitt. Over 50 individual prizes were awarded for the August 28th Championship tournament. The Awards banquet was held after the Championship final fore matches. The dinner was prepared by Linda Owens with the help of Alison Bingenheimer featuring Lakeside market’s famous chicken and delicious roast beef. Among all the awards and prizes the highlight of awards was the winners of the Most improved Golfer. Don Battaglia was the obvious evening division winner while Jerry Ginnitti was the morning division winner. Although Norm Smith took home first place, Clark Smith might have taken home the best prize. Clark was the winner of a 2008 season pass raffle. Next big event is Challenge Cup XIX, vs. Rosebrook on September 15, 2007
